Technology continues to play an increasingly powerful role, with advances in technology influencing a variety of sectors, including, education, e-commerce, and healthcare.
While
technology continues to influence web design in progressive and
forward-thinking ways, there is also a call for more simple techniques.
Here we
discuss 5 web design trends that we will witness in 2022:
1. Have fun!
Something
we expect to see more of this year is fun and playful web designs. Today’s
internet users are far more familiar with digital platforms, meaning there’s
more space for experimenting with new and unique web designs.
This is
evident in the greater use of eye-catching typography, adventurous colours and colour combinations, and engaging features to create a more uplifting, positive online experience
for users.
2. Keep it simple
Another web
design trend we expect to see more of in 2022 is simplicity. Think plenty of
white space, neutral colours and simplified graphics. Designs of this nature
respect society’s desire for peace and calm. With so much going on in today’s
world, people are craving simplicity.
Designers
are acknowledging this desire for simplicity through simple visuals and
essential information. This capitalises on the concept of expanding features to
reveal further information, rather than condensing web space with lots and lots
of content and features.
3. The need for speed
Last year,
Google introduced its Page Experience update, which placed a heavy emphasis on
page-loading speed. This algorithm change resulted in a faster loading time,
thus improving the overall user experience. This could also contribute towards improving rankings in Google.
Google’s
constant updates mean that designers and developers are better equipped to
create fast-loading websites that offer a positive user experience. As
technology continues to evolve, users will be less and less patient with
slow-loading websites. Such sites will suffer from a loss of traffic, poor
conversions and low SEO rankings.
That’s why, when it comes to web design, it’s so important to place an emphasis
on user experience.
At EWM,
we’re so excited to see how web design evolves in 2022. During these testing
times, we expect to see more simplified web designs that are mindful of nature.
We also expect to see web designs that are inspired by the latest technologies,
while respecting the need for a positive user experience.
4. Oversized typography
When it
comes to web design, there is no limit to what you can do – except for your
imagination. While we’ve emphasised the importance of simplicity in
mindfulness, this doesn’t mean to say that you can’t push boundaries.
Consider
fonts, for example. One of the latest trends in web design is oversized
typography. Some websites are using oversized text to create an
ultra-minimalist, sophisticated design.
Another
trend to watch out for is glassmorphism, which we mentioned in our graphic design trends post.
In
glassmorphism, background frames and buttons are blurred, while design elements
in the foreground have a glass look and feel to them. Designers are merging
transparent/glossy looks with blurry elements to create a futuristic
appearance.
5. Scrollytelling
Also known as ‘narrative
visualisation’, scrollytelling involves presenting a series of visual elements
that you have to scroll through to reveal a chronologically-ordered story. The
user controls the speed with which they navigate through the site, while benefiting
from a message presented to them in an interesting and intriguing way.
What web design trends are
you adopting in 2022?
Obviously, the world as we
known it has changed significantly in the past three years, and these changes
have notably affected the way web designers create websites. What’s more, as
technology continues to evolve, web designers are pushing boundaries and
exploring brand new and innovative avenues.
