A trustworthy site speaks volumes about your business. It encourages people to stay put on your website for longer and shows that you are up-to-date with the latest technologies. A trustworthy site is essential in today’s competitive online environment where having a positive online presence helps you to attract and retain customers. On the other hand, an untrustworthy site can have a lasting detrimental impact on your business, to the point where you lose customers and therefore revenues.

So what is it that makes a site seem untrustworthy? Read on to find out…

1. Poor design

The first most apparent factor in an untrustworthy website is its design. A poor web design is a design that is messy and complicated or unclear in its intentions. It might have a countless web of pages or pages that are poorly designed to endless text boxes, images, videos and text all crammed onto one page. Alternatively, it might contain incomprehensible text or text in various shades, sizes and fonts.

A site like this tells your visitors that you are not a site to be trusted. It warns them to tread with caution as they navigate through your site (if they decide to stay put), and shows that the site lacks experience, initiative and honesty.

On the other hand, a site that is well designed tells your visitor that you are on top of the latest trends and care about positive first impressions. It is an invitation to explore the site and enjoy it, and shows that you are capable, proficient and professional.

2. Complex copy

Complex copy is immensely off-putting to visitors as they end up feeling confused and overwhelmed. People want a straightforward browsing experience where they can obtain the information they need with ease. If they encounter difficulties then they are very likely to exit the site in favour of a competitor. So communicate clearly to your readers using powerful language that impacts positively on sales.

3. Lack of information

On the opposite end of the spectrum from complex copy is overly simple copy. If your website is too simple in its approach to information then it immediately makes visitors feel unsettled.

Websites need to provide plenty of information to their users so that they feel as if they have learnt something from their experience on your site. This then leads them to view you as an industry expert who they can trust. In order to show your customers you are the perfect company for their needs, you need to have:

·         An about us page with information about your employees

·         In-depth information about your products or services

·         Plenty of information designed to encourage users to make purchasing decisions

The above 3 factors are so easy to avoid. Whether you decide to maintain your website independently or hire the assistance of a leading marketing agency, it’s up to you. What matters is that you operate a trustworthy, modern website that brings value to your visitors.
