Brands such as Google and Apple are well known for making regular changes to their technology and algorithms. Apple, for instance, is constantly releasing updated versions of its technology whilst Google regularly makes SEO changes that directly and indirectly impact on businesses.

But one other business that is not averse to change is Facebook, a company which frequently announces changes to the way it conducts itself. User expectations and requirements are continually changing and Facebook understands the importance of keeping up with these ever-changing needs.

When Facebook first launched in 2004, it wasn’t obvious that 10 years down the line it would be the biggest social media platform in the world. Today, it’s one of the most dynamic tech companies in the world influencing businesses and marketers of all shapes and sizes. With more than 500 million users, it’s obvious why businesses have taken to the platform to interact with their users and promote their products or services.

If you are an entrepreneur or marketer using Facebook for business, take note of the major Facebook changes that are likely to take place in 2016:

1. Advertising Changes

Since Facebook’s advertising platform was first revealed more than a decade ago, it has not stopped changing. A number of updates were introduced in 2015, including the mobile ad management feature, as well as the ‘Call Now’ button. Since changes to advertising are so commonplace at Facebook, it will be no surprise if the brand introduces a social or e-commerce feature for businesses, along with more flexible ad management facilities for 2016.

 2. Organic Visibility

In 2015, it became incredibly difficult for businesses to reach their audiences organically, and this is because Facebook adjusted its algorithms so that businesses had to pay to promote a post to a wider audience. Although this caused much frustration for businesses hoping to organically reach their target audiences, it’s not difficult to see why Facebook implemented such a measure (i.e. more revenue for the company), and as such, don’t be surprised by further restrictions on organic visibility in 2016.

3. More Focus on Video

Video content is exceptionally popular, not just on Facebook but across other social media platforms as well. Apps such as Meerkat and Periscope are highly popular and Facebook already introduced automatically playing videos within its news feeds in 2015. Last month, Facebook announced plans to introduce live streaming for iPhone users, so it will come as no surprise for businesses and individuals alike when more tools become available to make video capturing and uploading much easier.
