The modern world of web design has become incredibly creative. Nowadays, web design is more of an art than a science: web designers across the globe are using their artistic creativity to push boundaries and keep people browsing for longer.

Since technology and design have come so far since the dawn of the internet, it can be tempting to implement many features on our websites and create a site that perfectly showcases your talents. However, there are certainly some aspects of web design that you need to think twice about, as outlined below:

Popups

Many web designs implement popups trying to influence people to take action such as:

·         Sharing a post

·         Following you on social media

·         Signing up to your mailing list

Too many popups across your website is frustrating for users and can quickly lead them to exit your website. A site with popups is actually deemed tacky and unprofessional as the designers are trying too hard to push users into taking action.

Instead, get into the minds of your audience to establish exactly what they are looking for when they enter your website. Keep this in mind when creating or editing your website, as the last thing you want to do is put your audience off and deter them from taking action.

Too much Jargon

The language that you use across your website also plays a huge role in influencing or deterring users from browsing for longer and taking action. If you use heavy jargon that prevents site visitors from truly understanding what you do, then they will very quickly become confused and will not want to work with you.

Everyone that visits your site could potentially be completely new to your line of business. As such, it’s essential to strike a balance when creating content for your website, to ensure that the site is fully comprehensible for anyone that might visit. Use plain English even if your products or services are complex. Be direct and straightforward and focus on the benefits of your products or services.

Using PDF files for reading

Today’s internet users, who are largely browsing from a mobile device, do not want a complicated journey when they enter a website. They want a smooth, hassle-free web browsing experience that gives them the information they need quickly and easily.

Of course, if they are accessing a government or educational website then large PDF files are expected, but if you want to share small files and other information with your readers then avoid using PDF files within your web design.

Not testing Everything

If something is not tested and a problem arises, then you will need to go back and fix it once the page or section of your site is live and active. This could mean you have to remove a page until it is fixed, which reflects badly on your business when visitors to your site see an ‘Under construction’ sign.

Modern web users want a website that is:

·         Visually appealing

·         Valuable

·         Simple to navigate

·         Simple in its design

·         Fast in its loading speed

·         Free from technical jargon
